College and University Administrators are scrambling for a safe place in the face of an oncoming firestorm of protest against collegiate rules forbidding self-defense on campus, and at least one former Oregon Administrator has pulled his head out of his Academia to ask:  "Is this going to hurt my career?"

Dear Joe, and all the oh-so-Academic-Joes who have been making life-altering decisions for your students for the past century:

Well ... yes.   There probably will be a 'discussion across the country' about this.  Except that the discussion has been going on for DECADES!  This is merely the first indication that someone in Academia might notice it.   (You sanctimonious bastards!)

Firearms are the most restricted, legislated-against, controlled commercial product in American history.  And yet Obama bemoans that it's to EASY?
Well, for someone who has no history of mental disease, or felonious actions, it's easy.  That's in keeping with the Second Amendment.  But the issue isn't about guns, it's about people.  As soon as we get technology which allows us to predict how people can act in unpredictable ways, we can stop this unpredictable activity. What's important in regards to the politics of Obama's speech right now is that neither you nor I nor Obama knows anything about what sort of weapon was used and how it was obtained or the shooter's background. I don't even know his name as I type. 

Thus, he is undoubtedly overreaching beyond the facts when he speaks over and over about how apparently easy and simple gun-safety laws would have prevented this, or future tragedies like this

The arrogance of our current president surpasses understanding.

I read the news about the massacre at Umpqua Community College (which by the way is pronounced "UMP" as in "Umpire" and "QUA" as in "QUALITY"), and I'm appalled once again by the societal influences which bring a person to the decision that they only way he can be made whole is to cause the slaughter of innocents.

Usually, this sort of tragedy is ended when the shooter commits suicide, and I wonder:   "why the HELL didn't he just shoot himself first?"

Today, the police in Roseburg, Oregon (nice town, I've been there many times, it's only 120 miles away from my home) were both pro-active and timely.  They responded to the calls quickly,  found-and-fixed their target, and resolved the situation as expediently as possible.   But they were too late to stop that asshole before too many people were slaughtered like lambs.

Unfortunate that there were no CHL (Concealed Handgun License) holders on the scene; they could have minimized the death toll, which was far too many innocents.  I often wonder why America is so plentifully staffed with innocent lambs, and so understaffed with the sheep-dogs that a proper flock requires.   We need to pay more attention to the needs of our sheep-dogs local police departments.

And we need to revisit the collegiate rules which mandate no CHL on campus in Oregon.  The state laws allow CHL, but (as I've said so many times before) the colleges can make their own rules about no guns on campus, and enforce them by firing an employee who violates them, or by terminating a student who legally has the temerity to carry a firearm on campus.

... and this most recent tragedy is my fault because I am vehemently against Gun Free Zones, because that's the Happy Hunting Ground for mad men.

TOTALLY ignoring the original premise of this no-think piece, I drilled down to the comments (oh, PLEASE do that .. it's as exciting as a dog-fart in an enclosed car!) and found one which just begs to be fisked!  

Proof gun owners are disingenuous about their safety arguments. 

1. 99% of all home invasions occur when no one is home. A gun will not protect your property when you are not home. Insurance companies will not lower your insurance rate if you own a gun because owning a gun has no actuary impact on property protection.  

2. Insurance companies have real data on what protects you: lights, alarms and other safety measures. The combined sum total which costs less than the price of 3 guns. Insurance companies will lower your home owners policy if you put the recommended home protection safety measures in place. 

Apparently, the fact that gun owners who are home owners are not at home 100% of the time is a valid argument against firearms possession to protect yourself, your property and your family when you (or your family) ARE at home!

At least 2,300 people have been shot in Chicago this year alone, according to the Chicago Tribune. According to their analysis, that's roughly 400 more incidents than during the same period in 2014. Homicides are currently up 21 percent in 2015, with the past two weekends pointing to a noticeable increase in gun-related violence.

The Mayor of Chicago is saying that ... private ownership of firearms is almost entirely illegal in Chicago, and yet there are too many guns?  And the rate of  SIC ("Shot In Chicago" rate) is too high?

On the contrary; I would say that this grim statistic EXACTLY "... reflect(s) the values of the people of the City of Chicago..."

I realize this is a tired bromide that I've been touting for YEARS, but I'll say it again:

The SIC in Chicago is irrationally high.

The democratic leadership (pusillanimous mayors) of Chicago have historically held its citizens in an iron fist which denies them the right to defend themselves, by dint of their draconian laws against private ownership of firearms.  As a consequence, honest citizens pose no threat to armed gang-bangers who roam the streets at will.   The police in Chicago doubtless includes many honest cops who only want to clean up the town ... but they can't do it by themselves.

Generations of Chicago Mayors have ensured the victim-hood of their constituents by denying the right to self-defense.  (Last count; there was only ONE gun shop within the city limits, and rumor has it that that business has been closed due to excessive municipal regulations.)

Nobody is working toward making the citizenry of Chicago self-supportive,
At the same time, nobody (read: the office of the mayor and everyone under his control) has recognized that their police force is able to combat the crime-in-the-streets culture which has been promulgated because gang-bangers KNOW that when they fire a shot ... nobody in the streets will be defending themselves, except the other gang-bangers.

The solution is so obvious, the only reason it has not been implemented is that the politicians want a population of dependent serfs to rule, rather than a population of citizens to cherish.

There's a wall of gun-laws between honest citizens and their right to defend themselves.  And yet the Mayor continues to whine about 'statistics' (and demand even more restrictive gun-control laws) rather than to allow honest citizens to defend themselves.

As the saying goes:

"If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem".

Mister Mayor, you are the problem.

Please either do your job, or do the right thing by exiting your office so an honest officer can lead,

A convicted felon who accidentally shot himself in the penis was arrested after police say he lied about how the shooting happened.

Donald Anthony Watson was admitted to the Avera McKennan emergency room about 1:30 a.m. Sept. 6 for a gunshot wound to his penis, according to an arrest affidavit.
When questioned by police, the 43-year-old said he was shot by “a black guy (who) tried to rob” him while he was taking out the trash at his apartment.

Victim later admitted that he shot himself in the  umm ummm while lying in bed playing with his "gun" (victim not specific in this area, but apparently very accurate in other senses of the term).

Okay, it wasn't really "Appendix Carry"

Two days after the surgery, Watson was re-interviewed about the shooting. He told officer he was examining the gun, placed it in his pocket and the gun discharged striking him in the penis. He refused to tell officers who was selling the gun and where the gun is now.

Watson was then arrested on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of firearm by drug offender, false report of a crime to law enforcement and false report of information to law enforcement.

Hasn't the man suffered enough?

I have too much ... pride ... to indulge in any of the obvious smirking puns which come to mind.

An ordinance under consideration by the Missoula City Council is taking heavy fire from gun rights advocates.
Sponsored by Council Members Bryan von Lossberg, Marilyn Marler and Emily Bently, the draft ordinance aims to close a loophole that allows private transactions and gun transfers to happen without a background check. Licensed firearms dealers are required to run a check on gun buyers, but there is no federal or state law that requires the same check for private parties.

We just suffered through this kind of  bastard legislation in Oregon, and I hope that the good folks in Missoula (and Montana in general) will find the wisdom to give the ordinance the sound trouncing it so richly deserves.

Why?

Well, not just because (a) criminals will not observe it; and not just because (b) it will make criminals of honest citizens who recognize the ordinance for the intrusive kind of needless governmental oversight it is, and refuse to comply with it.   These are only third level reasons why this kind of ordinance (or "law") is to be avoided.

The real problem is that it is tantamount to Registration ... which is the first step toward confiscation of private firearms, and that's the reason why it seems to attractive to liberals ("They Who Do Not Want To Take Your Guns").   The only way the law can be enforced is if they register the serial number of the firearm, and enter it into a database. That way every change of ownership can be traced.  

Just in case they want to .. oh, I don't know ... check up on you from time to time to see if you still have the gun you bought.  And if you can't produce it, and if you haven't filed a report of stolen property, then you the buyer will be fined ... or jailed.  Because you have obviously sold the gun, but didn't follow the "ordinance", so you are now a criminal.

What if you sold a gun and it is later used in a felony?  Well, you sold the gun to a felon; that makes you and accomplice before the fact.  You must know that there is a movement afoot to enact laws which make a seller liable for 'bad actions' involving a firearm which you have sold.  Even though you followed the law as best you could (more on that later), and should not be liable for the bad-actions of the buyer --- you might just end up doing hard time in the pokey for not insuring that you are selling to an "honest person".

These are some of the secondary reasons why this is a Bad Law.

Lets talk about the PRIMARY reason why this is a not-good thing:  it is registration, which leads to confiscation.   And brother, if Big Brother knows you have a gun, he can take it away from you or throw you in jail (see above) .. or both.

So what do you, as the seller, need to do to obey the law?  Why, you do an NICS  (National Instant Check System) check on the buyer.

Just one problem:  Only licensed dealers are authorized to use the NICS system.  So you and your buyer need to traipse before a dealer (in person) and have him run the check.  For which he will charge you something between $40 and $100 dollars .... and plan on the $100 charge, okay?

MARY WRITES AN OP-ED BLAMING HONEST PEOPLE FOR ABUSE OF THE LAW BY DISHONEST PEOPLE!

The question is, how did a felon get the gun? Pretty easily in Missouri or Kentucky was the point made by Kentucky chapters for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, which is affiliated with Everytown For Gun Safety. Both Missouri and Kentucky have lax gun laws. Even people with serious records wouldn’t be flagged during many  gun sales. ,,, Studies have indicated a connection between when Missouri repealed its gun permit system in 2007, eliminating background check requirements for private handgun sales, with a doubling of the number of guns winding up at crime scenes. Loosening up the rules for the good guys who want guns also loosens the rules for the bad guys who want guns. It’s that simple.

I question Mary Sanchz's statement that eliminating gun permits doubled the number of "guns ...at crime scenes".   Her statistics may in fact be accurate, but to ascribe that increased statistic to local (state) recognition of the Constitutional Rights of her fellow citizens is wrong-headed.

The rejoinder is obvious, and Ms. Sanchez meets that head-on.

 And yet, calls for evaluating gun ownership are always met with a dismissive response. It’s the reply that says: Criminals don’t abide by the law anyway, so don’t bother thinking that gun regulation will affect them? But why make it easier for them? This is what the legislators fail to grasp. Their intention is to stoically protect the Second Amendment. They give credence to conspiracy theories that believe any tracking of guns sold or backgrounds checked will open the door to federal troops confiscating America’s firearms.

You cannot eliminate crime by punishing honest, respectable people.  The only effect is to turn them into, essentially, assumed criminals without any evidence that they have bad intentions.

Mary, you do have a Crime Problem in Missouri.  We've watched your state turn into a shooting gallery over the past several years.

But that isn't caused by the Constitution.  It's caused by societal factors which your state  is unable, to address.   Nobody is pointing the finger at you; we know that these societal ills are endemic to today's social environment, where we try to make it right for poor people by making it more difficult for people who don't share their problems. As in: people who own guns legally are responsible for the crimes caused by people who own guns illegal

Why do people who should not be allowed to buy guns from private persons still get to do so?  It's a two-part question:

1. People who have guns don't want their guns to be registered, because it leads to confiscation.  There's an entire huge body of discussion behind that, but it's still true ... historically.
2. People who own guns and sell them privately do NOT have access the the National Instant Check System, which registered gun dealers do. AND By The Way .. there is no such thing as an non-licensed dealer.  Not in America.   We're either a Dealer, or we're a Private Citizen.  Don't ask me why, I'm not sure .. it should be possible for a private person to call into the NICS system and ask if Joe Blow who wants to buy their gun is legally permitted to do so, but we can't.  So blame it on the NICS, on Congress, on the President ... blame it on the Bossa Nova, but don't blame it on honest private citizens. 

So why is there so much gun crime in Missouri today, if not because of private gun sales?

Single parent homes; low income; dearth of honest jobs; and an entire segment of society that thinks it's admirable to break the law because the criminals they see on the streets have expensive cars, while honest people have to walk to work.  (IF they can find work!)   These are the conditions which lead to violence .. they're not the cause of violence.

Neither is the possession of a firearm a cause of violence.  Still, it is not a "condition of violence", either.  Millions of people own firearms and do not break the law, do not harm their neighbors, do not undermine the economic viability of their neighborhood.

And your presumption of guilt without rational justification isn't helping, Mary.  You're just letting your emotions cloud your thinking.  You think that there's too much violence in your state, and you are correct.  But you also think it's because "It's Too Easy For Criminals To Be Armed".

You have made the rhetorical assumption that Cause and Effect can be determined by your outrage.  In truth, it's much, much more complicated than that.

By conflating gun violence with gun ownership, you not only do a disservice to the millions of law-abiding gun owners who do not deserve to be the object of your outrage, but you distract our attention to the true progenitors of violence in our neighborhoods, in our cities, in our states and in our country.

As investigators look into why the student brought a gun to school, coincidentally community members talked gun violence Thursday night. For about one and half to two years Wilmington city leaders, UNCW staff and other community organizations have been working on a plan to reduce youth gun violence. Thursday night, city officials presented a report pointing out four initiatives to be the focus of keeping kids safe. These four points include prevention and intervention, law enforcement, education and jobs.

For the first time .. well, perhaps FOREVER!  Someone has identified a Problem, presented a SOLUTION, and seem to be actively working toward a RESOLUTION!

I don't know if they can make it work, but they have a plan and they're not just whining about a problem.

It took me almost three weeks to decide that I needed to reply to this "news article" / Opinion Piece.

I'm still not sure I can do it justice, nor that I can add anything new to the dialogue.
But I feel I ought to try.

Here's the crux of the story:

It took only seconds for Facebook and other social media sites to begin their talk about gun control and most of the consensus was that more people need to carry so that these senseless murders can stop. First, there is no way that any one of the three innocent victims would have had time to pull a weapon to prevent what happened. One second they were interviewing a woman and the next second there were shots and screams and two people were dead. The shooter even recorded the murders and posted them online before being identified and pursued until he shot himself. I will never understand these arguments about how carrying weapons can prevent these quick and senseless blasts at innocent victims. The shooters clearly have no respect for any human life, including their own. They rarely do.

Typical liberal bullshit.

You posit that "We need to do something about the NRA", but you not only do not define the 'problem', you fail to posit a solution.  What a retard!

: Florida State Representative Dennis Braxley, often referred to as the father of the state’s Stand-Your-Ground law, filed a bill HB 169 that would profoundly alter the effects of Florida’s self-defense immunity law, reports the Orlando Sentinel. (The bill is embedded at the bottom of this post.) As this is only proposed legislation at this point I would normally let it go given my workload, but I’m already seeing so much misinformation about this bill being spread thick over the internet that I feel obliged to set a reality stake in place. First, “Stand-Your-Ground” ≠ Self-Defense Immunity Before we even begin, please note that “Stand-Your-Ground” and self-defense immunity are two entirely different legal concepts, and conflating the two merely demonstrates an ignorance of the law.
 “Stand-Your-Ground” has to do with whether a defender has a legal duty to retreat before using force in self-defense, period. Self-defense immunity has to do with whether a defendant can qualify as immune from prosecution, regardless of whether retreat is an issue in the case. Two. Different. Legal. Concepts.

I have no legal training, and although I understand that this is a quantum-change in the "Self-Defense" standpoint of legal jurisprudence, I am (perhaps naively) still convinced that the burden of proof is on the prosecution.  Whatever makes it more difficult to convict an innocent man is not a motion counter to that basic legal concept.

I further believe that it is better that 10 men not be convicted when they are guilty, than that one man be convicted when he is innocent.

I find little to laugh about in J.W. Austin's letter ["Try certain registration zones for gun carriers," voices, Sept. 13] but pray it was a bad joke. Austin recommends that citizens in "high crime" areas (determined by government officials) relinquish not only their Second amendment rights but also their Fourth Amendment rights against unreasonable search and seizure.

Second Amendment Scholars might find something to object in a proposition that certain geographic areas might be subject to closer scrutiny ... along with more stringent rules of weapons confiscation.

Especially in that a "government official" would define these "areas", or gun zones.

The rest of us find the proposition to be a horrible example of an attempt to bypass constitutional rights by neighborhood.

I'm resisting the temptation to list the 'wrongs' here, so save yourself from having to read a deplorably LONG blog-post and make up our own neighborhood rules for firearms confiscation.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center reports 20-25 percent of female college students are victimized by rape, that is 1 in 5. Further, one third of the rapes occur on college campuses. Those facts are being swept under the rug by colleges and universities. If gun-free-zones and whistles worked, why are so many women still being raped? As a woman licensed to carry a firearm for protection, I can defend myself off campus, but the second I step on campus, I no longer have the right to defend myself. I must surrender constitutional rights that guarantee my right to keep and bear arms and of self-defense to get a college education. Effectively, I become a ward of the university but the university has no legal duty or responsibility for my safety. In fact, they hide behind sovereign immunity that protects them from civil suits and criminal prosecution for failing to protect me.

I spent 20 years on college campus, both as a student and as an employee, and I agree with Rebekah that she is unfairly discriminated against when she is disallowed to protect herself in a "Gun Free Zone" ... which is typical of almost every college campus in America.

In fact, as a mature male employee, I was concerned with my right to carry on campus; I typically stayed late at night to complete my work, and found the lack of adequate lighting in EMPLOYEE parking lots to be intimidating.  When I was a student, I just ... tried to look tough.  (That was 50 years ago, and the situation has not improved!)

Rebekah doesn't have that 'looking tough' option; her concerns are legitimate.

College administrators are so worried about Virginia Tech type onslaughts, but they don't seem to understand that their 'campus carry' rules are not providing any protection to their students, staff OR faculty.

Of course, any college that suffers an 'incident' because they haven't rigorously imposed draconian no-gun rules will be held up as a college that "doesn't care about gun violence".  (As if they could stop it!)

This is another Gun Free Zone situation, and there is no good solution.  Armed attacks (or "merely" the common rape and assault patterns on a campus where testosterone rules) will continue, but the first time someone attempts to defend against assault, the store will not be about("ho hum, another boring news day") Campus Rape but about a college that has failed to protect its students against gunfire.

Well, Hell .. there's no good solution for the Joan or Jill who has to decide whether to defend herself against assault, or against both legal and COLLEGE ADMINISTRATIVE proscriptions.

Any student who decides to protect herself with a gun may perhaps protect her honor, but she will lose her scholarship, her enrollment, and the money she paid to enroll in this death-trap which is the American College Campus.

And she will never again be allowed to enroll in another institution of higher learning in her home state.

And even if she should fail to protect herself, and the story becomes public, she is not only a victim of assault but she is also unable to continue her education at the college level.  Because she tried to use a weapon to accomplish the same degree of self-defense which would be available to her if she was two blocks away from the college campus.

What kind of America is this?

NOTE: In Oregon .. as I have noted previously on this venue ... it is legal for persons with a CHL (Concealed Handgun License) to carry on campus.  If found in possession with a weapon, a CHL holder cannot be prosecuted.

But the college can take steps:  if an employee, the person will be fired 'with or without cause'.
If a student, the enrollment will terminate immediately.  The  fees and registration charges which the student has paid will not be returned.  There will be no option to re-enroll on any other campus within the State University System.

So, a younger and bigger man physically intimidates an older and smaller man .. foolishly, as it happens, The victim (for whatever reason) used his personal carry pistol to defend against  his attacker.

Who is right in this situation?  Who is wrong?

The consequences of this story might give you pause.

Or it might make you think about what you will say when you appear before a jury, if you are ever called upon to defend yourself legally ... as well as physically .

Polls are often used to create public opinion, rather than to measure it.
 One extraordinary exception to the ability to use this sort of propaganda to forward the leftist agenda, has been the destruction of the Second Amendment.
 The Second Amendment is so clear that a significant percentage of the population rebelled against being told to ignore the plain wording of the Constitution and to believe what they were told to believe.  They ignored the admonitions that only the "experts" could know what the Constitution actually meant.

This is a significant writing, and deserves to be read.

But it might perhaps have been slightly overwhelmed in its intensity by a commenter, who (regretfully) identified himself as "ANONYMOUS".  I have a great deal of respect for ANONYMOUS, the most frequent contributor in the world, but sometimes I wish he/she would self-identify so that the rest of us could shake his/her hand ... as is the case here.

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus on Friday criticized a Marine Corps study that showed that female Marines in a mixed unit did not perform as well as men in several key areas.

The report study showed that the women tested were (a) selected because they had scored high on early PT (Physical Training) tests, and (b) they were intrinsically motivated to score well on the subsequent tests which evaluated their ability to perform on a par with men who were not selected for their ability to score high based on their physical abilities, but for their tendency to perform well when paired with women in teams..

Performance of the female participants in these trials was not only below that of their male counterparts, but were sub-par over all.

The study showed that females in the unit were injured twice as often as men, were less accurate in shooting and were not as good at removing wounded troops off the battlefield.
(Navy Secretary Ray Mabus) argued that other studies, including one by the Center for Naval Analysis, say there are ways to mitigate gaps in performance "so you have the same combat effectiveness, the same lethality, which is crucial."
Mabus said some of the report's conclusions were based on generalizations and not the women's performance.
"Part of the study said women tend not to be able to carry as heavy a load for as long, but there were women who went through the study who could," he said. 

The Secretary of the Navy was disinclined to accept the conclusions from this test period.

"They started out with a fairly largely component of the men thinking this is not a good idea, and women will not be able to do this," [Mabus] said in n interview with NPR.
"When you start out with that mindset, you're almost presupposing the outcome," he said. 

The thing about "tests" is, you don't start out with a pre-determined conclusion.  You start out with a hypothesis, and the test results are intended to prove or disprove the hypothesis.  It's a simple little thing called The Scientific Method.

The Secretary of the Navy, however, has it all back-assward.  He started out with a "truth", and then directed his subordinates to validate .. not prove, but validate .. the truth which he had pre-ordained.

You know when your boss says PROVE THAT X =Y and your job depends on 'your performance', not on 'the truth'???  That's the way it works in the military.   And even if it doesn't "work" .... well, if you have ever served in the military, you know,

But here, the truth was tested and rejected.  By "The Boss".  Only because he is "The Boss".

Doesn't speak well of the military, does it?

David Codrea at The War On Guns takes note of an article in the International Business Times which bemoans the lax gun control laws in Arizona which allows almost ANYONE to own and use a firearm!!  And they don't need a license to own a firearm, or to register the gun, or ANYTHING!

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on whether you wish the author to be considered an authority, or at least a competent reporter of "facts"), the author makes some serious errors in these  .. well, facts!

Obvious (to people who are either smarter than a stump, or are conversant with gun-control legislation over the past 50 years), the usual gun control laws regarding barrel length have been applied to barrels SHORTER than a given length ... not LONGER. (Shorter barrels make it easier to hide or disguise long-guns, or so we are told by people who aren't a helluva lot smarter than this author.)

And these restrictions are imposed at a federal level .. they are not unique to the state of Arizona.

Are we to assume that the Liberal Press is stupid, or deliberately skewing the facts to fit their agenda?

It said in a statement that the victims were still being identified, and Foreign Ministry personnel were working with the families of the victims. The Egyptian ministry said that police and armed forces were pursuing terrorist elements in the area and fired on four cars that turned out to be carrying tourists. The ministry said the victims were Mexican and Egyptian.

Well, at least the Egyptians had the grace to claim that the shooting was the result of an error in identifying their victims before killing them.

This is much more laudable than the explanations which Mexico typically publish when they kill a dozen of their own.

Apparently, there are still regions in the world which are more deadly to Mexican nationals than their own homeland.

Wouldn't it be ironic if it turned out that these dozen Mexican nationals were refugees seeking asylum?

Still tragic, yes; but  ironic.

I do compete in IPSC/USPSA matches ... not well, but it has been my personal 'work-out' activity for over 30 years.

And I've been conducting Safety (and 'rules of competition') classes for the past years.  One of the reasons I volunteer my time to present this class is because I want my Sport Of Choice to continue that promise ... that IPSC is, and shall continue to be, safer than High School football.

Then this happened.



This headline might have been:

I honestly don't believe that the young men who perpetrated this 'sneak attack' understand just how much they have betrayed the lessons which their elders have tried to teach them.

Football players are suppose to be aggressive .. which is one reason why it doesn't interest me.

But this ... THIS ... is quite beyond the pale (as our English friends would say it).

I'm not ready to blame the Coach, or the Referees, but I am prepared to blame the people who hit the ref.  (Two hit him, but another was READY to hit, and arrived 'too late'.  That may have saved his future, as he will perhaps not be tarred with this same brush..)

BADMOUTH THE PLAYERS?
The latest reports indicate that the football official may (or may not) have "... used a racial slur before (and) after the incident".  [More VIDEO, and DISCUSSION]  (Doubtful; such folks are not usually allowed to supervise school sports .. at least, not for long.  But  W don't know.)

Apparently, team members other than those who were directly involved in the attack were witness to those 'racial slurs'.  Without further information, it's not only impossible but unfair to judge.

Except for this one thing: even if these allegations are true, then the "incident" has NOT acquired some kind of societal "justification";  it exacerbates the gravity of these young men.

1st Amendment: Is "Unpopular Speech" now justification for brutality?  Is this a Constitutional Question?
These young men boys have therefore demonstrated that if someone says something to you that you don't like, it justifies a brutal response.

Is that what we're teaching our children in America today?

BOULDER - A deputy with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office was injured while participating in the department's handgun training Thursday morning. The deputy was on the firing line at 9:40 a.m., when he drew his weapon and shot at a target. When he was holstering his weapon and turning to the range training deputy, he said he shot himself in the leg.

In COLORADO????
Who knew?  I thought they were a safe, Democratic State!  They still let their cops carry guns?

Since the deputy was obviously a Highly Trained Peace Officer, the blame can only be directed to the gun.  Um .. pistol.  Handgun. Whatever.

I haven't bothered to research to this article, it's from a "Trusted Source", although it is admittedly "single-sourced" at this time.  But on the surface it appears that gun-grabbers are making an even more concerted effort to convert honest, sane, legal gun-owners into criminals.

So yes, the only way you can protect yourself from this kind of litigation is to confirm the buyer's eligibility to purchase a firearm by referencing NCIS; but no, you as a private citizen do NOT have direct access to NICS.

Oh ... these are "police firearms licensing employees" who want to mandate draconian restrictions on their fellow Britons?  Not elected politicians?

How typical.

Eight years ago I held an extended dialogue with a "British bobby" who identified himself as the "ASBO King:"

 (ASBO is the short version of "AntiSocial Behavior Order", by which British police identify young men behaving badly, also known as "YOBS".}

His contention was that by issuing a citation to YOBS, his department  focused their public shame on their behaviors, without needlessly involving the court system ... which was already swamped with arrests for assaults, home invasions and robberies.  He was VERY proud that he had issued more ASBOs than anyone else in his department; he seemed that he had performed a very positive effort which would successfully reduce the number of assaults with bodily injuries in his area of operations.

  He was unable to provide statistics to the effect that ASBOs reduced violent crime.  He was just proud that nobody got killed, even thought they all lived in an atmosphere of fear and intimidation.


Essentially, the judicial system could not contend with they overwhelming traffic in assaults and non-fatal injuries, so they decided to just issue a citation.  It's a "three-strikes-you-are-out" kind of thing, which means the YOB could get three ASBO before they were arrested and incarcerated.

My argument was that the arrest absolutely identified the YOB as a violent and unrepentent adolescent who knew that he could weather being unformed on by three of his abused victims before self-promoting himself to more sophisticated criminal activities.

His argument was that they identified the bad boys and 'made them think twice'.

Yeah ... ASBOs make YOBs be even more aggressive and violent, so they could intimidate their victim neighborhoods more thoroughly.  The YOBs know that they have nothing to fear from "law enforcement".  (The consequences of an ASBO is ... laughable, and does not strongly encourage a change in behaviour.)

Since Britons cannot legally own firearms, their citizenry is subject to rule by the strongest; the average citizen is even STRONGLY discouraged from resisting a home invasion by such crude armaments as a cricket bat or a bread knife.  (Their attackers expect no penalties at all,)  And God forgive you if you use a firearm to defend your self, family, home or property; because the British Court certainly will NOT!

In the past seven or eight years, the situation has not changed to the advantage of the individual citizen, nor for the YOBs.  Innocents are still subject to being beaten on their doorstep by young thugs, and said thugs still face no greater threat than a citation.  

Welcome again to the land which once proclaimed that "the sun never sets on the British Empire!"

It has set in England.

And John Peel is still rolling around in his grave, muttering under his non-breath:  "WTF?"

In the meantime, America is setting its hopes on a "Universal Background Check", which criminals will ignore   (and even most honest citizens will ignore, because it is unconstitutional.)
And politicians in America sleep well tonight knowing that they have done something to preserve their political career.
Fuck the American people and their safety ... there are enough American single-mothers pumping out enough Democrats to keep their political selves in office until America looks like England, without the charming accent.

Parents of students at Western Wayne High School got a call Wednesday night telling them about that morning's incident at the high school. Now a veteran of law enforcement is suspended without pay while investigators determine whether he should be charged after his gun went off inside his office. "At approximately 11 a.m. our school police officer, while in his office, inadvertently discharged his firearm," said the recording of Western Wayne Superintendent Clay LaCoe.

That man is an idiot.   He claims to have been cleaning his gun.  Likely story .. chances are he was f*cking around with his gun instead of keeping it in his holster where it belonged.

The word "inadvertently" is worse than "accidentally".  An accident is marginally acceptable, but "inadvertently"???  As if, there was NO way that this could not have happened?

The three (or four) basic rules of gun safety don't apply to a sworn officer in a school building?

Hard to believe that the announcement of  Taurus Curve was greeted with such an atmosphere of disbelieve.
