What are your guns worth, if the government declares all guns illegal and offers to buy them back?

So the Oregon shooter’s guns were legal. Now what? (October 03, 2015) Hot Air:

From the liberal, gun grabbing side of the discussion there is one remedy which would – eventually – cut down on mass shootings. It involves eliminating all of the guns on the planet. Owing to the fact that the majority of Americans still value gun rights and view private gun ownership as a positive force in protecting themselves from evil, Democrats are loathe to say the words out loud, but that doesn’t mean that they wouldn’t like to see it happen. Unfortunately, the gun genie is out of the bottle
What a fascinating question?  And nobody wants to touch this one!

What's the value of your grandfather's Winchester lever action .30-30?

Your STI Open Pistol, that you payed $3500 for?

Your 1911 .45acp built in 1918?

No, there's no way that a Gun Buy Back Scheme is going to work in America.

Australia managed a gun buy-back scheme.  It didn't satisfy a lot of people.
But THEY made it work, because ... essentially, a bunch of expatriate Brits.
You know ... "obey the law because it is the law" kind of people?

Subjects.

The fact is, the only way America can possibly confiscate ALL firearms is to under-value the guns that it proposes to 'buy back', and some Americans would probably accept the penurious evaluation because the alternative is that their guns would still be confiscated, without any compensation at all!

And as Australia (and also Canada) attempts at reducing the number of firearms in their countries show ... well, most people just rolled over and let it happen.

Can you imagine that kind of "Social Responsibility" in America?

First, the gang-bangers in Chicago wouldn't give up their guns. But since the honest citizens in Chicago already know that guns are verbotten ... only the gang-bangers would be giving up their guns.

Right?

No, I don't think so, either, even though Chicago has strict gun control laws, very few gang-bangers register their (already illegal) weapons.

So much for gun owners who are already illegally in possession of guns.

How about legal gun owners?

Oh .. not happening.  See Connecticut for an example:
The latest gun control law in Connecticut has crossed a very frightening line. A standoff has been created between the government and tens of thousands of gun owners now considered felons. It [six] marks the beginning of an Orwellian new phase. Gun owners saw it coming, as evidenced by their recent adoption in recent years of the defiant expression “molon labe.”
So, Criminals will not give up their guns.  Legal owners will not give up their guns!
What's left?  Left Coast Liberals?  They don't have guns, so they are living in LaLa Land and don't care.

If universal confiscation of all guns are the only valid solution to "The Gun Problem", and if that 'solution' would lead to honest citizens being declared to be criminals because of their refusal to obey an unlawful order (read the Second Amendment), then the only solution is that there is no solution.

This is a contretemps that the American Government has faced for decades: however much the good folks in Washington would LOVE to get rid of all guns in America, they're face with .. not the constitution, but a lot of private citizens who are just stubborn enough to insist on their constitutional rights.

As crazy as that may sound in D.C., that's the way we stupid Americans are.  Always insisting upon full observance of our constitutional rights.

Sorry, Senator Whats-his-name (we didn't vote for him anyway), but that's the way it is.   You have the F-15 Eagle Strike Fighters, we have the .22 rifles.  Millions of them.

We win

That's the way it's suppose to be.

PS:  We're Not Australia.  We're America.

Do like people in other countries have done. Hide some guns and ammo away where they will not easily be found. Obama has hinted at confiscation, Hillary has advocated it. Neither would let the second amendment stand in their way.

In Joe Stalin's commie dictatorship, guns were banned early on. Turn them in, no exceptions. Not everyone did. State Security Chief Beria was told to get all the guns. It became a capital offense, requiring summary execution, and STILL guns remained available to Russians, especially to gangsters.

History's lesson: the State will NEVER get them all, and the problem of armed criminals preying on unarmed citizens gets WORSE, not better. Proof: Australia in the modern era, which has seen a 44% increase in violent crime since their recent disarmament.
