WASHINGTON, June 4, 2014
It has been almost two weeks since a mentally ill man killed six people in Santa Barbara, then took his own life. The wounded and the families of victims will be picking up their lives for years. The media and Washington liberals, and liberals in state legislatures around the country are using this incident to push for tougher gun laws and more gun control. To that end, the media have covered this story relentlessly.
But while the UCSB killings hold media and political attention, the press seems to be turning a blind eye and deaf ear towards one of the most violent cities in the country.
Chicago.
This image shows the shooting incidents in Chicago between May 23, 2014 — the day of the UCSB shooting — and June 4, 2014. There were over 80 documented shootings in Chicago in this timeframe. These include fatalities, botched robberies, and gangland killings. Some of these areas see so many shootings that it is unclear just how many there are on the map without counting by hand.I don't know the answer to that. Why is this information not causing a firestorm among politicians and the media? Why has this information not been brought to the attention of the public? Where is the outrage?
Is it because there are so murders in Chicago that everybody just takes it for granted that the Murder Capital of America will have ... well, more murders?
Are we becoming complacent?
Is it because most of the people who are being killed in Chicago are ... ummmm ... "minority races". Do we tend to shrug it off, because it isn't happening in OUR non-minority neighborhood?
Is it because Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been reclassifying "murders" to "other classifications" for the past couple of years, so we can never be sure just how bad it really is? *
*(on this last point, I don't think so. As much as the murder rate in Chicago has been under-reported by the 21st Century's answer to "Mayor Daley", it's still sufficiently gruesome to warrant SOME attention outside the city limits of chicago.)
For the past two months, I've been spending the mamority of my blogging time reporting the violence, the cover-ups, the corruptions and the bankruptcy in Chicago. I have a very limited readership, but the articles have been picked up by other services (such as blogger.com and thegunwire.com) so it's not as if they haven't been read.
Comments, however, have not evinced any more concern among the limited audience of RKBA people than among the general audience.
Last week, I decided I was beating a dead horse.
But in case anyone wants to take a good look at what Chicago is turning into, I offer two online resources provided by Chicago Police Officers:
Hey Jackass: Illustrating Chicago Values
Second City Cop
Take a look at these two webblogs. It's not that the CPD isn't aware of the problems, nor that they're unaware of where the problems lie.
It's just that they are too undermanned, overworked, and inundated with crime to be able to deal with the issues.
BTW ... another article which I haven't bothered to talk about (because I'm beginning to sound like a 'one-note Samba' notes that Mr. Mayor has been "thinking" about raising the tax rate on residents to hire more cops. No word yet on that proposal yet, either.
Well, as long as "they're only killing their own", it probably won't happen.
Mr. Mayor doesn't want to turn Chicago into another Detroit.

Is it because the mayor is a liberal, and failed liberal policies aren't to be publicized???
Is it because in Chicago, it is mostly gangbangers and thugs shooting other gangbangers and thugs, with a few innocent bystanders thrown in.
