Boomershoot Philosophy vs Gun Registration

Why Boomershoot? | The View From North Central Idaho:

The politics of this country in regards to gun control have changed.  The turning point has been reached and we have a winning endgame in front of us.  There are still a lot of bigots out there that are trying to make gun owners into second class citizens and politicians that try to use fear of guns to increase their power.  But Federally things have improved in the last five years  And even in some states like Washington where the Democrats got control of both houses and the governor’s mansion no further restrictions have been implemented recently.   The war is being won.  We need to keep up the pressure and push the bigots into political extinction rather than let them build up strength and attack us again but if we choose our battles carefully and don’t slack off the victory is ours if we want it...
[emphasis added]

Joe, I'm not saying you're wrong, but you're not entirely RIGHT, either.
(But you are certainly not naive!)

The thing is, the gun-grabbers haven't given up ... they're just taking smaller nibbles in their step-by-step plan to confiscation.

Registration - Confiscation:

Washington State voters enacted a law 2 years ago for 'universal background checks'; Oregon enacted the same law recently.

The Washington State version of the law is being lauded as a success since "New Law Blocks 50 Gun Sales In Washington" , which will encourage other states to enact this 'common-sense gun control measure'.

The problem with these "universal background check" laws isn't the momentary inconvenience of private owners when selling 'off the grid' (they are not licensed firearms dealers, merely private citizens.

It isn't even that private owners must channel all sales through a licensed firearms dealer ... which makes the transaction cost higher because the dealers will charge for the service.

No, the problem is that the transaction doesn't just check 'whether the buyer is not legally restricted from firearms purchase' by virtue of criminal background, or mental disability, or other reasons.

The problem is that the private transaction may keep the serial number in a database.

Depending on each state's definition, this MAY not go through NICS, but through a local law-enforcement agency.

This means that the firearm identification MAY be retained in a permanent database, which is tantamount to registration.

California, several years ago, had a similar situation when they accepted sales of a certain firearm, but kept the records; and when they changed their state rules ... they had a ready-made registry of each and every weapon.  And they confiscated them.  All of them.  Without compensation.

IT takes one law, or one "Presidential Finding":

We've seen how our current "Great Leader" has obviated federal laws by fiat (or by not enforcing the laws which he has, by his Oath of Office, sworn to uphold and enforce) to curb illegal immigration.

Doesn't this sound familiar?

"Emigres revitalize and renew Americans"

And they vote the straight Democratic ticket, on which Gun Control is a hot ticket which Democrats are no longer as afraid of as they were in 2000 when Al Gore lost his bid for President:
While Tennessee has moved to the right in national politics, Mr. Gore has moved to the left since his days as a congressman, particularly on issues like abortion and gun control that have put him at odds with many Southern voters. If he had not, Professor Geer said, ''He could still have carried Tennessee, but he would never have gotten the Democratic nomination.''
[emphasis added]

Today, we have no viable Republican candidates .. or Democratic candidates.  The only decision which voters can make is whether they want to live under a socialist regime, or one lead by a "Republican In Name Only" named Donald trump.

Neither choice is comfortable for Conservatives.  Or for Firearm owners.  The only difference is that the Democrat candidates have NOT vowed to "Mister and Mrs America, Turn Them All In" and Republicans have ... oh, no difference at all!

Yet.
Republicans, for their part, have something to lose in this election by their fealty to the NRA—those same voters among whom Democrats have been making steady gains, especially in the urban parts of swing states. Last fall, Obama began urging single-issue voting as the most effective counter to the NRA. “You have to make sure that anybody who you are voting for is on the right side of this issue,” he said. “And if they’re not, even if they’re great on other stuff, for a couple of election cycles you’ve got to vote against them, and let them know precisely why you’re voting against them. And you just have to, for a while, be a single-issue voter because that’s what is happening on the other side.
SO, REGISTRATION OR CONFISCATION?  OR BOTH?

It seems that we have already accepted ipso facto Registration .. no, the transactions are currently not permanently data-based.  Yet.  But given another President with "... a pen and a cell phone", that's only a phone call and a stroke of a pen away.

You think I'm getting too paranoid, don't you?
I think you're not paranoid enough.
