A case for totally unrestricted firearms access

True ‘common sense’ from an Indiana lawmaker - Seattle gun rights | Examiner.com:
Reflecting what appears to be a national trend — it certainly is here in Washington State and literally anywhere else one keeps track of concealed pistol licenses — Lucas notes, “Applications for concealed carry permits in Indiana continue to explode as hundreds of thousands of Hoosier men and women realize that they are the first line of defense in protecting themselves and loved ones.
Just off the top of my head .... why are there any restrictions at ALL of citizen access and carry of firearms?

It just makes the ATF folks look bad in the press; wouldn't it be a whole lot easier to ignore those silly laws?   The only ones who pay any attention to them are the "Honest Citizens".

Let's face it; all the Gun Control Laws that this nation has ever established have accomplished only one single thing --- legitimate citizens (read: "Law-Abiding Citizens") are the only people who are EVER affected by gun-control laws.

. The Bad Guys will have whatever guns they want.

. The Crazy Guys are indistinguishable from the Bad Guys.

. The Honest Citizens .... are distinguishable from the Bad Guys by the moral and legal "sense of responsibility" which they demonstrate by making an honest effort to abide by changeable and illogical laws.  But they don't like it, usually, even though they TRY to observe them.

. The folks who are charged with enforcing these laws (USUALLY the ATF) have been so embarrassed so often; we're pretty sure they wouldn't mind not being obliged to enforce these silly laws.

And we all know that if a felon is charged with a felony, any gun-laws that he has violated are ignored during prosecution because theft/rape/robbery/murder (etc) charges are more important AND easier to prove than firearms laws violations.  (The gun law violations are often stacked on top of other felonies .. because during plea bargaining it's easy to dump those violations 'first'.  I'll say this again, in a minute.  It's important that you don't miss the point.)

There HAS been an effort to make violation of firearms possession laws penalties 'significant', but that hasn't proven to be an effective preventative measure.  In any plea-bargaining process (in which other felony violations are concerned), the 'firearms possession' charges are the first to be waived .. as if they are not really very important.

Which, apparently, they are not.  (I told you I'd get to that point 'in a minute'.)

Unless, of course, you are the person who is being prosecuted, and the sole charges are violations of forearms possession laws.  You know, like having a shotgun the barrel of which has been shortened to less then xx inches.

Can you say "Ruby Ridge", children?

I knew you could!

And at the Branch Dividian compound in Waco, Texas, the initial attack was by ATF agents  who were concerned about  similar"firearms violations" (A point which seems to have been forgotten, in all the "confusion" which included the death of children by arson and gunfire initiated by Federal Agents.  Oh, and tanks .. did we mention tanks were used to kill children because one guy had a short-barreled shotgun???)

All of this unrest is probably not caused by the simple shortening of a shotgun barrel, but by the over-reaction of Federal Agents ... most of whom assuredly regretted their involvement during the unfortunate post-even investigations.
Which put a bad light on those (ATF) Agents.
And the FBI Agents.

They probably don't like being made to look like 'the Bad Guys', especially when they ARE The Bad Guys.

If it was not for the fact that the ATF guys hang their careers on the gun laws, I bet you they would be just as willing to see those stupid unenforceable (by honest cops) laws dropped.  They do no good, but they do much harm.

Let's get rid of them.  All 20,000 of them!

THEN let the Gun Control folks start all over, from scratch.

Should be interesting to watch the feeding frenzy!

If government, at any level, has no control than it become irrelevant.
